It’s Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Nueva York (BFMNY)‘s Annual Guelaguetza Festival and that’s something to celebrate! The term guelaguetza is a Zapotec word meaning “offering” or also “reciprocal exchange of gifts and services” and we’re excited to take part.

This summer celebration originated in Oaxaca City, Mexico, where representatives of the eight regions of Oaxaca gather together wearing traditional costumes to dance, sing, and give gifts to the crowd; creating strong bonds between the different regions. Each region offers a unique contribution to the festivities – like the much-loved “Dance of the Pineapple!”

BFMNY is dedicated to preserving the culture and traditions of Mexico, not only with the beauty of Mexican folkloric dance and music, but also building strong bridges toward a more culturally diverse society. Learn more about BFMNY HERE.
